Death doesn’t bargain…

April 10, 2010

“Death, the last sleep?

No, the final awakening.”

Sir Walter Scott (Scottish Poet, 1771-1832)

A couple of hours ago, a tupolev 154 crashed near the city of Smolensk, Western Russia. In it were (first estimation) 132 passengers including the Polish president Lech Kaczynski and his wife and several other high ranking government/military officials. Now I don’t know much about the president and the other passengers, still I felt the urge to express my condolences and offer my sincere well wishes to the family and friends of the deceased passengers.

A little word on the quotes, since that is the essence of the blog; I picked two, quite contradicting quotes for this tragic event. The first, “death doesn’t bargain”, comes from August Strindberg (Swedish writer, 1849-1912) and is fairly blunt. The second one is a bit more promising and personally I prefer the second one, since I too believe that death is just another obstacle that needs to be taken. But this is not the time to dwell on that.

May they rest in peace…
